Chai Tea

The term Masala Chai literally means "mixed spice tea".  The infusion of tea, spices, dairy and sweetener makes this heady exotic specialty more reminiscent of an Indian meal than of a morning in a cottage garden.  This blend of flavors traces itself back to Ayurvedic medicine, it was made popular by the British owned Indian Tea Association during Empirical Times, in order to increase tea consumption in India.  This blend of intense and soothing flavors, however has outlasted The Raj and continues to grow in popularity across the globe.

Brew Time: up to 5 minutes

Taste: Exotic and complex.  Black tea infused with spiced reminiscent of the spice islands.  Green cardamom, cinnamon bark and ginger balance out in a in a strong black tea base.  Adding dairy and sweeteners, as is tradition, increases the confectionery value of this delightful tea.
